On February 27th, 2021, GoDaddy announced that it was upgrading all of their WordPress hosting customers to the latest version of WordPress. Also In the announcement, GoDaddy mentioned it would be changing their customer’s plugin settings to “automatic update”, which means plugins will no longer need to be manually updated. This means that the Limit Login Attempts Reloaded plugin was recently updated for thousands of GoDaddy customers, and it came with some new features such as the failed login alert email messages.

Email announcement from GoDaddy

GoDaddy currently installs Limit Login Attempts Reloaded on all WordPress hosting accounts as part of their setup process. If you are a GoDaddy customer, you can go to “settings” on the WordPress dashboard to view “Limit Login Attempts”. Limit Login Attempts Reloaded is installed on nearly 2,000,000 websites worldwide and is the most popular plugin for stopping excessive login attempts on WordPress websites.

Failed Login Email Alerts

We have received several emails from GoDaddy customers that they are receiving failed login alerts. These emails indicate that there is a suspicious login attempt to your website, which was blocked by the plugin. It’s possible to receive several of these depending if there is an active attack. These emails are not coming from our company, but from the website that has Limit Login Attempts Reloaded installed on.

If customers do not want to receive them, they can be turned off in the plugin settings by clicking the “unsubscribe link” on the bottom of the email. Our company is NOT sending these emails, they are not spam, and they are actual suspicious login attempts that may need to be addressed.

Troubleshooting

For those that don’t own a website and receive a failed login alert message, it’s possible some websites are still using admins emails of previous owners or employees. Please forward the failed login alert messages to [email protected] and we can explain which website is using the email, and provide whatever contact information is available. We cannot remove an email off of a WordPress website.

If failed login alert messages persist, we first recommend changing all admin passwords. We also offer an upgraded version of the plugin that neutralizes the excessive logins in the cloud, throttles malicious attempts, comes with premium support, and much more.
